China to establish database to prevent fraudulent marriages

China's Ministry of Civil Affairs is planning to set up a standardized digital marriage registration system in each of the country's provinces, to prevent the menace of  fraudulent multiple marriages. A national data base, which will be connected with  provincial marriage databases will help trap those who have attempted to marry multiple times by tracking their real identities and marital status information. Under this programme, marriage registration databases in the cities of Beijing and Shanghai and the provinces of Shaanxi, Hebei, Hainan and Jiangxi have already been linked to the civil affairs ministry's marriage registration system.

China  has seen a dramatic rise in marriage fraud in recent years where people have used forged identification to marry different people in the lure of wedding gifts. The manual registration of weddings make it easy for fraudsters to get away with multiple marriages and  by stramlining the activities and setting up of a national database, these tricksters could be brought to the books.

Weather Records To Predict Future Cholera Outbreaks

CHOLERA is known to strike most often after warm or wet weather. Now the International Vaccine Institute in Seoul, South Korea, has come up with a more precise forecast, based on records from the Tanzanian island of Zanzibar.

For example,a 1 °C rise in average minimum temperature signals a doubling in the number of cases four months later; 20 centimetres extra rainfall signals a doubling two months later. This could indicate when to vaccinate for Cholera.

Cholera vaccination is not widely used, but with a virulent strain of cholera like the one in Haiti now causing outbreaks that last months, there have been calls for more strategic vaccination. On contrary to this, the experts have come up with the idea of predicting future Cholera outbreak by looking at weather records.

Toshibha's Self Encrypting HDD Enables Automatic Data Security

Toshiba have unveiled a new family of hard disk drives with self-encrypting technology.

Toshiba developed this since there have been several incidents where a laptop was lost or stolen, and sensitive information was exposed because the data was not encrypted. With these Toshiba drives, IT departments know all the data stored on those systems are automatically secured.

The MKx61GSYG line of self-encrypting hard drives will automatically store data using the 256-bit AES encryption and prevent the data from being accessed if the drive is used inside an unfamiliar computer. The drives can be configured with invalidation attributes to scramble or deny access to protected data, depending on specific use cases.

The 2.5-inch two-platter 7,200 rpm drives will use the 3G bps Serial ATA II interface and have 16MB of buffer memory. The drives will be available in 160GB, 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and 640GB capacities.

The drives are intended for professional use where there are specific privacy and data-security concerns. The self-encrypting drives can be used in copiers, multi-function printers and point-of-sale systems. They can be used in government, financial, medical and other environments where there is a lot of sensitive information.

Google Maps on Android Now Features Traffic Data

Android has now added a new feature for Android users of Google Maps Navigation- the real-time traffic data. The feature will work automatically in the app, accounting for real-time and historical traffic data when it plots your route.

If you have been stuck in traffic and find out that you’d have been better off going a bit out of your way to take a less congested route. It doesn’t need to be this way, and so here comes the use of Google Maps Navigation (Beta). It will automatically route you around traffic. With more than 35 million miles driven by Navigation users every day, this should add up to quite a bit of time saved!

You don’t have to do anything to be routed around traffic; just start Navigation like you normally would, either from the Navigation app or from within Google Maps. Navigation would choose whichever route was fastest, without taking current traffic conditions into account. It would also generate additional alternate directions, such as the shortest route or one that uses highways instead of side roads. The Android routing algorithms will also apply their knowledge of current and historical traffic to select the fastest route from those alternates. It means that Navigation will automatically guide you along the best route given the current traffic conditions.

Not only can you save time and fuel, you’re also making traffic better for everyone else by avoiding traffic jams. keep in mind that Andrioid can’t guarantee that the navigation will be able to find a faster way. But it will always try to get you where you’re going as fast as possible.

You can begin routing around traffic with Google Maps Navigation for Android in North America and Europe where both Navigation and real-time traffic data are available right now.

Some of the strange places where your data gets stored

With the advent of cloud computing technology, the  data management system is all set to undergo a sea change in the days to come. Data can be stored in a server in an  enormous temperature-controlled room somewhere; it need not be even in a building. Some of the weird places where you never expect to find the data includes a  former nuclear fuel facility in Hanau, Germany . Though it was originally built as a nuclear facility in the 1980s, it  never became operational.

The Academica's data centre in Finland, which is located in a former World War II bomb shelter underneath the Uspenski Cathedral is another such weird data storage space. And its waste heat pumped into the city's heating grid, heats up the water  pumped to the local homes.

The trend is catching up fast even among big companies like  Sun Microsystems, HP and Microsoft that have stuffed entire data centres into shipping containers that can be dropped off in a company's car park, hooked up and switched on!  Lets us wait to hear more news on  data storage spaces that you never even thought could exist!

GDS International – Scams are well investigated and published

GDS International scaminvestigators get into the depths of the information to bring up the facts behind each news story.

Like most aspiring businesses in the early 90s, GDS International was riding the crest of a colossal economic wave, weaving in and out of events and media in already established markets, but more importantly investing time and research into the emerging markets. Unlike most companies in their early years the man at the helm of GDS International, Spencer Green was persistent in marketing to emerging markets in places such as China, India and Latin America - learning the ethos, culture and how these nations did business, which would come to serve him and GDS International very nicely in years to come. These periods spent in Asia and Latin America would allow GDS International to grow rapidly in the ongoing recession.

Call for the Need of a National Domestic Violence Database could save lives in Queensland

Experts are in the opinion that a NATIONAL domestic violence database would help police eradicate cross-border red tape and stop the steady flow of innocent mothers and children dying.

The comments come after last week's horrific triple-murder/suicide, involving both NSW and Queensland when Paul Rogers murdered his ex-partner Tania Simpson and friend Antony Way on the Gold Coast, before abducting his five-year-old daughter Kyla and gassing himself and Kyla in his car just outside of Casino.

It is understood while NSW Police have limited access to the Queensland Police database and criminal histories in that state, it is far from comprehensive.

While it is so, the experts are in the opinion that access to information between states was especially important in a region that neighbours Queensland. The community legal centre of Queensland was calling for a national domestic violence database.

Medical Data- Westmidlands Going Ahead With Sensitive Records Amidst Security Fears!

It has now emerged that thousands of patients in the West Midlands will have their sensitive medical data held on a controversial computer database.

The Summary Care Record system for medical records was halted by the coalition Government last year amid fears of security and patient confidentiality.

Under the plans, NHS staff in the UK will be able to access the medical records of people in emergencies so they can check what existing conditions, illnesses or allergies they have.

After a review of the project, which sparked fears from GPs that it was going ahead without proper consent from patients, the Government has said the scheme will now progress.

Thousands of people will receive an information pack, including an opt-out form with a pre-paid envelope, which they can use if they don’t want their records stored on the database.
